This work is a study of a painting by Pompeo Batoni, an 18th-century Italian painter known for his religious works and portraits. It depicts the apostle Peter, recognizable by the large key lying before him, a symbol of his role as guardian of the gates of heaven. Next to him is a rooster, which refers to the Bible story in which Peter denies Jesus three times before the rooster crows. Peter leans pensively on his hand and looks up, a posture that emphasizes his remorse and inner struggle. With this reproduction, I have tried to study and imitate Batoni's composition, use of color, and light-dark contrasts.
